SERP API / Observe

See the result.
Keep the context.

Understand SERP API data as a defined observation of a search results page—not as a universal ranking or a substitute for first-party analytics.

A useful snapshot says what, where, and when.

Preserve the search engine, requested location, language, device context, result depth, and observation time. Keep organic listings and other result modules separate when the source supports them. A missing page within a captured depth is not proof that the page is absent from the entire engine.

Keep result types distinct

Do not mix organic positions with advertisements or other modules in an unlabeled ranking field.

Label incomplete coverage

Separate no results, not found within depth, unsupported context, and collection failure.

Compare like with like

Hold observation settings constant and annotate changes to your collection method.

Position values in the downloadable fixtures are synthetic examples, not measurements of live Google results.
